Wolfram Alpha

When this concept of wolframalpha leaked out.. it was termed as a google killer... and Wikki smasher...  but then later on those very people who heralded it went to say that it is't such user frendly and does give information that the user is exactly looking for. yes i do agree if you want to know what is "Great wall of china" or which is the longest bone in your body then its better ask google or wiki. But if wanted to some real hard core math or scientific stuff they wolframalpha is the way to go!!!
for example if yo wanted to find out your Body Mass Index(BMI) and if you go through google yo'll probably have to go through of website before you actually find one good, authentic site  but on the other hand wolframalpha makes your life way lot easier in this case atleast. All you have to do type " 85 kilos,6 feet 2 inches, BMI" in you search bar in wolfram thats it.. it gives you you BMI followed by a couple of self descriptive graphs and what should be your ideal BMI and where you stand currently and also the way it calculated it.

wolframalpha works like clockwork when it comes to coverting your simple plain english queries into hard data computing numerical answers to common sense questions. Ofcourse its not quite simple. what wolframalpha does not know is what a piece swim suit is or how many kinds of heinze ketchup are present, but what it knows it 10 trillion pieces of factual data, mathematical,socio-physical,biographical,physical,cultural,linguistic... etc... the list gones on. If not in detail it knows it roughly at least but there is one thing that it knows better than google or wiki- thats  how these 10 trillion pieces of data relate to one another.

impressive is't it??? not quite impressed?? let me paste a small paragraph from one of the tech crazy sites which claim to provide unbiased reviews on new and emergying technologies

"Wolfram Alpha's knowledge is impressive. You can drill down from national mortality rates to see where you fall in a distribution curve of height or weight, then further to calculate the calories you'll burn from your daily jog, then to the nutritional content of your breakfast and finally even examine chosen DNA sequences, bio-chemical reactions and particle physics.

In the other direction, you can pull up technical details on bridges and landmarks, then see routes between cities on a globe, including population and timezone data.

Expanding your focus, graphs of weather scale up to the paths of future solar eclipses, the actual distance today between the Earth and the other planets, interstellar astronomical data and ultimately, particle physics again.

With a bit of practice, you'll soon be able to calculate how much energy it takes to boil the world's oceans, compare road traffic accidents statistics worldwide and plot your choice of earthquakes and hurricanes - complete with official and academic sources."

i do not if wolframalpha is a google killer or not but one thing i am very sure-Its definitly a Homework Annihilator!! but then again as everybody pointed out its not so user friendly. there are a couple of thing to keep in mind when searching. but wtf even google has some guidelines on how to effectlively search in google!!  whatever the tech guru's say or dont say. wolframalpha gets a 5 from me!!

Nokia comes with up with something new!!!!

Wow.. this is indeed interesting.. remember i told you about technology being there for everone and it only depends on how it gets used. Seriously..nokia just went on to prove that point.
Everyone uses smiley's and emoticons these days, its a part of their lingo. No matter how many lol's or roftl's you type nothing beats the small cute round guys beating their fits on ground and rolling on the floor right?. And another concept thats been around for quite some time are the Adjustable back light on your cell phones. Some like it red, some green and so on and so forth.. now Nokia new technology just simple combines these two simple concepts into one. and

Voila!!!!!!!

 Introducing "Light Messaging"

This technology has just been submitted for patent and the concept here being so simple and so effective
when you type a message you add smileys and depending on the number and kind of smiley's or emoticons the receivers cell phones glows with the respective colour. For example if you receive a message and you cellphone is glowing red!!!! you are in for some real howling!!!

But now the question is.. is this really a great feature??? will it have any practical impact??? only time can tell. So lets be patient and wait and see how nokia uses the system in practise before dismissing this as a gimmick. :-) :-) :-D \m/\m/

Whats gonna happen if google fails????

Swear.... swear all you want... and nothing might happen.....

Did't understand??? well let me try again. Lets go back a few years in time to emphasise my point.
Errrr.. not exactly a few years, say about a decade to the time Windows Xp had created a hush,
and of course as now even then there were certain things that stirred a lot even wind when it comes to Microsoft products. Back then it was Windows Blue screen of Death.
You'd be working on something important or downloading something important and then suddenly your system would go on a strike!! showing a Blue Screen which say something abt memory dump and all that crap but the point here is, in such a situation all you could do was swear reboot, swear reboot, swear reboot and do a bit more swearing but eventually it would start working again.. remember this was in 90's through 2k.  Getting a feeling of deja vu???

Now lets cut to the present...

Now, it's the dreaded outage: you're halfway through doing something or downloading something important and the website packs up, your broadband connection goes on strike or the internet goes in a great big huff. Again in such a situation all you can do is swear reboot your modem, swear reboot your system, swear reboot both and do a bit more swearing but eventually it will start working again.. remember this present.

The point i am trying to drive here no matter how abstractly, is these days everything is ONLINE!!!!

The difference this time around is that when your PC did the blue screen, it didn't take your radio, your TV, your phone, your games console and everything else with it. When the internet goes, it might.

We're rushing into a world where everything depends on an internet connection, whether it's your email, your online apps, your Xbox Live or your TV on demand.

Most of the time, that's absolutely fine. Great, even. But it means that we're more vulnerable to catastrophe and cock-ups than ever before.

If your files are on the cloud and the cloud blows away, you can't work. If your entertainment comes down a pipe, an angry mole or distracted JCB driver can cut it off completely. And if you're using Voice over IP, no IP means no voice.

So my Advice... Take more Back ups... Burn those cheap grey market dvd's. its always better to sleep with a back up of your life time's worth under your pillow than have an online backup or on a "Sky Drive". you neva know... the next day you might wake up to headlines saying "Google's says sorry to all those who had data in their servers as their servers crashed due to some freak accident"..

coz you never know... anything might happen these days... Technology my Friend!!!

Microsoft Launching a new SEARCH ENGINE !!!!

Wow... after an failed attempt to buy yahoo in order give Google a run for their money now microsft has decided to develop their own search engine!!! after their current search engine msn flopped badly they are trying to revive their hurt feelingd through Kumo( thats what they have decided to name it). Dont ask me why they named it. but personally i feel they thought if " google" can attract attention then so can "Kumo".. why not?? its shorter to type in address bar and sounds as crazy as google.!!!

Well of course you'll now asking so special about Kumo and what does it do better that google does not know... Frankly my friend.. even i do not know and i care less...  But then again.. in todays world technology is evolving at rapid pace that even tech savy people like are finidng it hard to keep up.. who would have thought something like google reader could exist two years back... or even infact that you can have your entire live operating system in a 32 MB pen drive etc etc.. technology is there but it all boils down to how you can think out of the box and apply it to anything and everything.

Anyway coming back to Kumo. i could't quite get complete details of it but as far as their claim goes
- its gonna have a much simpler interface( simpler than google?? i really doubt it, but then again.. technology my friend!!)
- and they are gonna " Organise results in a much friendlier way so that the user exactly finds waht he or she is looking for" those were there exact words..

So.. more Kumo whenit releases next week or when i come to know more it..
till be happy googling.... coz you neva know...

Black Berry Storm 2 !!!!

After viewing the black berry storms 2's "leaked" images i have started wondering why is there always a leak before a storm?? so much for the pun.
The original BlackBerry Storm debuted to some glowing reviews when it was first released back in November of last year. Some even hailed it as an 'iPhone Killer'

That is until for Stephen Fry came along to lay the smackdown on the device, calling it "embarrassingly awful" via Twitter.

Well, its maker RIM has gone back to the drawing board (or should that be 'Black' board?) and Crackberry.com has managed to get hold of some spy shots of the latest iteration of the phone.

New touchscreen

A new feature of note seem to be that the BlackBerry Storm 2 will have more touchscreen capabilities than its predecessor, with RIM lopping off real buttons at the bottom of the original phone in favour of integrating them into the screen.

Crackberry also points out that the device seems to be slimmer and now includes Wi-Fi.

It sounds as if the screen has got a makeover too, utilising something called TruePress. Hopefully this means that it won't have that same click feeling, as all that did was cheapen what was an innovative handset.

It does seem that RIM isn't interested in changing the Storm's camera, as the 3.2MP sensor seems to have stayed the same.
